Therapeutic Outdoor Intervention

Therapeutic Outdoor Intervention is a concept that The Sky Academy has been developing for a number of years, working alongside the varying therapeutic needs of students. These sessions help students to develop cognitive skills and enable them to get in touch with nature through physical application and practical learning. The sessions are learner-led and are targeted towards the individual emotional needs of our students.

These therapeutic sessions embrace the different learning styles of students whilst promoting their Health & Wellbeing and providing a sense of tranquillity. Students benefit from attention restoration and appreciation for nature & physical activity, using the Thrive - Gardening to Save Lives approach.

Due to our generous site and extensive green areas at Sky, we are able to accommodate much of our practical learning on site. We have been developing our therapeutic garden and poly-tunnel, and the next part of our journey includes a number of allotments for biodynamic agriculture and gardening - promoting an organic 'Farm to Fork' approach to food cultivation.

  • Nature conservation - including habitat creating, wild life identification and grassland management
  • Greenwood crafts and related activities such as charcoal making, pole lathing, hedge laying and coppicing
  • Environmental art, making a cobb pizza oven, carving a totem pole making, Christmas wreaths and much more!
