Careers Policy




The Sky Academy's vision for young people in our school is that they achieve well and lead happy and fulfilled lives. We enable all learners to achieve educational outcomes that prepare them for adulthood and crucially, build the skills, resilience and motivation, they need to progress on their chosen pathway.

At Sky, we are committed to developing our careers programme to support our students and provide opportunities for every young person. We recognise the benefits that increased exposure to employers will have on our students, and are committed to ensuring our students benefit from at least seven encounters with employers from years 7-13, and aim to support our students by promoting time with employers from an early age.

Our careers programme seeks to challenge perceptions and raise the aspirations of all of our students, allowing them to look beyond their immediate environment to new and exciting possibilities.


The careers programme is designed to meet the needs of learners at The Sky Academy. Activities and pathways are differentiated and personalised consideration is given to when these experiences are best accessed to ensure progress and strengthen student’s motivation and aspiration, whilst giving young people the opportunity to develop their knowledge and experience of a variety of careers. Providing targeted careers support helps our pupils to explore their career options and transition successfully into an appropriate selection from the full range of post-16 pathways, such as work traineeships, apprenticeships and further education courses.


The responsibility for Careers education in school lies with the Careers Leader Kevin McKain. 

The programme is supported within the curriculum by Senior Staff such as the Senco, Deputy Head and Assistant Head Teachers, All staff will contribute to CEIAG through their roles as form teachers and subject leaders. 

A variety of external agencies are used to help The Sky Academy meet its goals, such as work experience placements, careers agencies, careers fairs and sporting foundations and trusts, visiting speakers, mentoring and enterprise schemes. 

The delivery of Independent Careers Advice at The Sky Academy ensures that every student should have opportunities for guidance interviews with a career adviser who trained to an appropriate level. These should be available whenever significant study or career choices are being made.Every pupil should have at least one such interview by the age of 16, and the opportunity for a further interview by the age of 18.  This year Independent Career Advice is provided by the organisation Inspired to Achieve who are providing Sky College’s advisor, Martin Clayton who is Lead Employment Coach at Inspired to Achieve,  Martin can be contacted via Yarlington Housing Group, Lupin Way, Yeovil, Somerset BA22 8WN t: 01935 403672 w: 

How your Adviser can help:  Martin provides independent and impartial careers guidance by providing face-to-face, one to one interviews to enable our students to consider their full range of options and draw up a plan in order to achieve career aspirations. 

About Inspired to Achieve (i2a): i2a are a subsidiary of Yarlington Housing and providers of impartial, independent careers information, advice and guidance. Inspired to Achieve work with young people to help them make successful transitions into employment, education and training.  Providing independent advice and information on all the options available and support students to find and access their chosen path.
